Meningitis B outbreak in Kent

We understand concerns following recent media coverage of the Meningitis B outbreak in Kent.

At present, the MenB vaccine (Bexsero) is only offered to babies as part of the routine UK immunisation schedule. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this vaccination at the practice for patients outside of this programme.

For individuals aged over 2 years, the MenB vaccine is available privately through some high street pharmacies and travel clinics. The course consists of two doses. Please be aware that we do not offer this service at Didsbury Medical Centre, so we kindly ask that you do not contact the practice regarding private MenB vaccination.

Due to increased demand, some pharmacies may have limited stock or waiting lists.

Locally, our area is currently classified as “watch and wait,” while targeted vaccination programmes are being carried out in Kent.
