Didsbury Medical Centre Relocation – Patient Information

We understand that moving the location of your GP practice may raise questions.

We have answered the most common queries below. If you are unsure about anything, please contact the practice and we will be happy to help.

Location & Access

What is the new practice address?

The Avenue, West Didsbury, M20 2ER

When is the move happening?

The new building will open on Monday 8th June 2026.

How far is the new site from the current practice?

Approximately 1 mile.

Is parking available (including disabled parking)?

Yes. There will be limited allocated parking for patients and staff, including designated disabled parking spaces. What are the nearest bus or tram stops?

Bus and Walk

Several buses run along Wilmslow Road.

Useful stops near the current site include:

  • Didsbury, near Belfield Road
  • Didsbury, adjacent to Wilmslow Road
  • Didsbury, near Clayton Avenue
  • West Didsbury Metrolink Stop (Stop A)
  • Didsbury, outside Fletcher Moss
  • Didsbury, outside Beaver Road Junior School
  • Didsbury, opposite Grange Lane

Take a bus towards West Didsbury (for example routes 23, 172, 111, 142, 42).

Get off near:

  • West Didsbury Cavendish Road (stop B)
  • West Didsbury, adjacent to Princess Road
  • West Didsbury, near Princess Road
  • West Didsbury Withington Community Hosp (Stop A)
  • West Didsbury Nell Lane (Stop C)
  • West Didsbury Nell Lane (Stop D)
  • Chorlton Southern Cemetery (Stand H)
  • West Didsbury Clyde Road (Stop C)

From there, walk towards The Avenue, West Didsbury.

Tram and walk

Nearest tram stop:

  • Withington

From this stop:

  1. Walk towards Princess Road and cross safely at the pedestrian crossing.
  2. Continue southeast for around 250 yards.
  3. Turn left onto The Boulevard.
  4. After approximately 120 yards, turn right to reach the new Didsbury Medical Centre (about a 5-minute walk).

Is the building wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The building is fully accessible, all on one level, with automatic doors and no need for ramps or lifts.

Are there safe drop-off points for elderly or disabled patients?

Yes. Designated disabled parking and drop-off access will be available.

Appointments & Services

Will my existing appointment still take place?

Yes. From 8th June 2026, all appointments will take place at the new premises:
Didsbury Medical Centre, 1 The Avenue, M20 2ER.

Do I need to re-register?

No. You will remain registered with the practice.

Will opening hours change?

No. Our opening hours will stay the same.

Can I still book appointments in the same way?

Yes. There is no change to how appointments are booked.

Will the phone number remain the same?

Yes. Our number will continue to be 0161 445 1957

Will current services and clinics continue?

Yes. All existing services (for example blood tests, baby clinic, minor surgery, contraception, joint injections and chronic disease reviews) will continue.

Will there be any new services?

We hope to expand services once we are settled in the new building.

Staff & Continuity of Care

Will I keep the same GP and nurses?

Yes. Our clinical team remains the same.

Will my medical records transfer automatically?

Yes. All electronic and paper records will transfer securely.

Will the practice close during the move?

Yes. The practice will be closed on Friday 5th June 2026 to allow relocation.
We will reopen on Monday 8th June 2026.

Who should I contact for urgent medical problems during closure?

Please contact GoToDoc on 0161 3365958, who normally cover out of hours, or NHS 111 for urgent medical problems that cannot wait until 8th June 2026.

Prescriptions & Test Results

Can I still order repeat prescriptions in the same way?

Yes. However, like with Christmas or Easter closures, please order prescriptions early to ensure you have adequate supply of your medications.

We will be unable to issue prescriptions between 5th-7th June 2026.

Will my nominated pharmacy change?

No, unless you choose to change it.

How will test results be managed during the move?

  • Results received before 6:30pm on 4th June will be reviewed and actioned.
  • Results received after 6.30pm 4th June – 7th June will be reviewed on 8th June.
  • Any urgent results will be handled by our out-of-hours provider.

Urgent & Out-of-Hours Care

What should I do if I need urgent care on 5th June 2026?

Contact GoToDoc on 01613365958 or NHS 111 for any urgent medical problem.

Has the out-of-hours service changed?

No. It remains the same.

Is NHS 111 still available?

Yes. NHS 111 services are unchanged.

Registration & Catchment Area

Am I still within the practice boundary?

Yes. All currently registered patients remain registered.

Can new patients register at the new site?

Yes. We welcome new patients.
